Daniela Heunis, Rhodes University

DANIELA HEUNIS is Lecturer in flute and music education at the Department of Music & Musicology, Rhodes University, Grahamstown. She studied at the Universities of Stellenbosch and Rhodes obtaining the following qualifications: B.A., B.Mus. Hons., M.Mus., HDE, UTLM, UPLM. Prior to her appointment at Rhodes, she held a similar post at the Wellington Teacher's Training College. She has been a member of the following musical ensembles: the Eastern Cape Chamber Orchestra, the Andrew Tracey's Steel Band; The Palm Court Trio / Quartet and has been a founding member of The Rhodes Trio with Ishbel Sholto-Douglas (cello) & Susan Gough (piano). In 1996 she directed the Rhodes University Chamber Choir while the permanent conductor, Christopher Cockburn, was on sabbatical. She had been adjudicator for a wide range of eistedfods and competitions and has regularly presented master classes. During 1999 she has presented choral master classes for the Eastern Cape School Music Organization to teachers of the Grahamstown zone and flute master classes at Rhodes College, Memphis, Tennessee, USA. She has delivered papers in South Africa and Canada.
