Daryl Edwards, University of Toronto

DARRYL EDWARDS, tenor, enjoys a thriving career as an accomplished singer and teacher. He has appeared to critical acclaim in opera, oratorio, and recital in England, Germany, France, Corsica, the United States, and across Canada: "It is almost unbelievable what an effortless, unclouded ray of musical strength this tenor possesses; he mastered his role, using a large spectrum of dynamic range and rich vocal colours." (Würzburg, Germany, 1994) He has been broadcast on the CBC and Illinois Radio, and his recordings include John Cage's Europera 5 and Ruth Watson Henderson's The Last Straw. His recent and upcoming engagements include l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Calgary Philharmonic, Symphony Nova Scotia, Sinfonia da Camera of Champaign Illinois, the Toledo Symphonic Chorus, and the Bavarian Chamber Opera. He holds undergraduate degrees in music and education, as well as a M.Mus. degree (Literature and Performance-Voice) from the University of Western Ontario, and a D.M.A. (Voice Performance) from the University of Michigan. Dr. Edwards was on the part-time voice faculty at the University of Western Ontario from 1990-98, and this past year was appointed Assistant Professor in voice at the University of Toronto. His students have been recipients of performance awards at provincial, national, and international levels.
