James F. Daugherty, University of Kansas
JAMES F. DAUGHERTY is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Music Education and Music Therapy at the University of Kansas, where he conducts the Concert Choir and teaches choral rehearsal methods, conducting, and graduate courses in the philosophy and foundations of music education. A graduate of Maryville College, Daugherty holds a certificate in voice from the Staatliche Hochschule fuer Musik Berlin, Germany, the M.Ed. from the University of Virginia, M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary, New York City, and M.A. from Columbia University. He received the Ph.D. from the School of Music, Florida State University.
His primary research interests include choral sound, choral pedagogy, and the philosophy of music and music education. Dr. Daugherty has contributed articles to research and professional journals, authored studies for the Center for Music Research at Florida State University, and is regularly invited to share his research at national and divisional conventions of MENC. As a choral conductor and clinician, he has worked with festival choirs and teacher workshops in ten states and presented sessions for divisional ACDA conventions. Choirs under his direction have been featured on National Public Radio's “Performance Today”.
