Rodger J. Beatty, Brock University

RODGER J. BEATTY is an Associate Professor in the Pre-Service Department, Faculty of Education, Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario where he teaches music education curriculum methods and counsels teacher candidates. Prior to his appointment at Brock University in 1994, Rodger taught 17 years in Ontario elementary schools. Dr. Beatty recently completed his Ed.D. in Curriculum at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. He holds an honors B.Mus. degree (University of Western Ontario), B.Ed. (University of Toronto), M.Ed. (Queen's University) and an A.Mus. diploma -vocal performers (Western Ontario Conservatory of Music). He is Past President of both the Canadian and Ontario Music Educators Associations. As a specialist in choral music at the elementary school level, Dr. Beatty is a frequent guest speaker, choral conductor, clinician, adjudicator and workshop leader for various teachers federations, numerous school boards and music festivals across Canada and the United States. His research interests include orientations of preservice teacher candidates, curriculum design in music/arts education, and selection of curriculum materials.
