Franz Krieger, University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz
FRANZ KRIEGER studied at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz (Music Pedagogy and Piano) and at the Karl-Franzens-University Graz (History and Social Studies) where he received academic degrees. Following additional studies in the field of Piano (classical) and Jazz (theory and arranging), he completed his musicological dissertation on "Investigations into style changes in jazz solo piano playing as demonstrated in selected Body And Soul recordings between 1938 and 1992". During the years 1984–91, Franz was an instrumental teacher (piano). A university assistant at the Institute for Jazz Research (University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz) between 1991–1999, he has been a professor at this institute since 2000.
Franz is the author of scientific investigations on jazz and popular music and lectures in Europe and the United States. He is the co-editor of the series Jazz Research, Studies in Jazz Research, and Jazz Research News. His research emphasis is on transcription and musical analysis and jazz piano. As a musician, Franz is the pianist for the Swing Quartet Graz and the Dixieland All Stars Graz and the keyboardist and arranger for the Miles Davis Project.
