Glenn Colton, Lakehead University
GLENN COLTON is an Assistant Professor of Music at Lakehead University, where he teaches courses in music history, form/analysis, music criticism and Canadian music. Beginning in July of this year, he will assume additional duties as Chair of the Department of Music at Lakehead. Glenn’s principal areas of research interest include nineteenth- and twentieth-century piano music, interdisciplinary studies involving music and art/literature, and Canadian Music. He is the author of a doctoral dissertation on the piano music of Canadian composer Jean Coulthard (University of Victoria, 1997), editor of the first published edition of Coulthard’s second piano sonata, and a contributor of articles to publications such as the Canadian University Music Review, the International Alliance for Women in Music Journal, the University of Toronto Quarterly, and Fermata.
Glenn has performed across Canada as a solo pianist and chamber musician (including the world premiere of Coulthard’s complete Images for Solo Piano in 1996), and has served as a piano adjudicator at music festivals throughout Newfoundland. He is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland (B.Mus., 1990), McMaster University (M.A., 1992), and the University of Victoria (Ph.D., 1997). A native of St. John’s and a presenter at the Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium II, he is delighted to return for this year’s event.
