Robyn Vaughn Cathcart, University of Victoria

ROBYN VAUGHN CATHCART hails from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Musicology at the University of Victoria, while also studying voice with Alexandra Browning. Prior to his arrival on the West Coast, Robyn received a B.Mus. (voice) at Mount Allison University, studying under Patria Lee and James Stark. Last year, he joined the chorus of Pacific Opera Victoria, and has since performed in three operas with the company, enjoying the small roles of Messenger and Officer in Il Trovatore and The Barber of Seville, respectively. Robyn has also held many engagements with regional theatre companies throughout Canada, including the Charlottetwon Festival, the Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre, Showcase Productions, the Stage Door, Louisbourg Playhouse, Festival on the Bay, Wand'ring Moon Theatre, and most recently as Romeo in Theatre Inconnu's mounting of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. While at the University of Victoria, Robyn has been actively involved in Graduate Student Government, serving as graduate music student representative and sitting on other university committees. He is also chair of Vivace, the University of Victoria’s graduate music student society. Currently, Robyn is working as a research assistant for Dr. William Kinderman, Beethoven specialist, while also teaching voice privately and singing as ringer for St. Luke's Anglican Church, Victoria. He also received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the University of Victoria, having been deemed an outstanding Teaching Assistant for the past two years.
