Michael Kornelson, Metropolitan State College of Denver

MICHAEL KORNELSEN is the Director of Choral Activities at Metropolitan State College of Denver, Colorado, where he conducts the Concert Choir, Men’s Choir, and Chamber Singers; teaches basic, advanced, and private conducting; and teaches music education and class piano courses. He has taught vocal music for more than 20 years at the college, senior high, junior high, and elementary levels. Michael holds a D.M.A. degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and has studied conducting withLawrence Kaptein and Dennis Keene. Michael has served as conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for honour choirs and music festivals both in and outside the state of Colorado. His choirs have consistently achieved superior ratings at area music festivals, and have often been invited to perform area conferences and organizations. He is the recipient of an Outstanding Teaching Award at Metropolitan State College, and a Down Beat Magazine award for Outstanding Performance by a College Jazz Choir. Michael is Past President of Colorado Music Educators Association, an organization consisting of 1,500 elementary, secondary, and college- level music educators. He is a member of American Choral Directors Association, MENC: The National Association for Music Education, and the National Collegiate Choral Organization. He currently serves as College and University Repertoire and Standards Chair for Colorado ACDA.
