A word from...Symposium Co-Chairs

Cecil Kinette Adams holds degrees in organ from Northwestern University and Evangel College. He performs regularly as a church organist and in concert. An experienced music educator and administrator, he has edited a number of publications for the Department of Education, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and has presented innumerable workshops for music educators throughout Eastern Canada.

ANDREA ROSE has an extensive background in music education and is active as a researcher, performer, clinician and adjudicator. She holds undergraduate degrees in Music and Music Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and a Masters in Music and Ph.D in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Wisconsin-Madison. Currently, Andrea is an Associate Professor of music education at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her research interests relate to the development of a critical pedagogy and the formation of teacher identity within music education generally, and music teacher preparation specifically. Andrea’s work has resulted in a variety of national and international presentations and publications. She is a joint author of the 1994 monograph Toward building a reflective and critical internship program (The RCIP Model): Theory and practice and a 2001 book entitled Teacher training: A reflective perspective. Andrea performs regularly with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, NSO Sinfonia, and is Chairperson of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra's Education Program. She is presently Artistic Co-Director of FESTIVAL 500 International Choral Festival and Co-Chair of The Phenomenon of Singing International Symposium. Andrea was recently presented the President's Award for Distinguished Teaching at Memorial University.
