Doreen Rao, Elmer Iseler Chair in Conducting, University of Toronto, ON

DOREEN RAO is a distinguished conductor and scholar whose work in music performance in music education is recognized throughout the world. Drawing on her performance experience, teaching expertise, and research efforts, Doreen’s Choral Music Experience model of music performance as music education serves as the theoretical foundation of her influential publications with Boosey & Hawkes. In addition to her conducting and lecturing appearances around the world, Rao's commitment to bridging practice and research continues in a wide variety of scholarly and professional performance contexts including appearances with major symphony orchestras and choirs, advisory work for the National Endowment of the Arts and the Canada Council, and regular speaking and conducting engagements. Doreen was recently awarded the Elmer Iseler Chair in Conducting. She conducts the University of Toronto MacMillan Singers and teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Music Education.
