Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

At the Edge invites submission of papers on topics relating to any aspect of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature and culture, or on Romanticism very broadly conceived. Contributions should be between 3000 and 6000 words, including notes and references, however shorter and longer pieces will be considered at the editor’s discretion.

All submissions should be prepared and formatted according to the guidelines in the most recent edition of The MLA Style Manual, which includes using parenthetical documentation, keeping notes to a minimum, and including a list of Works Cited. If the author feels that readers would benefit from a larger list of references that includes both cited sources and relevant, though uncited, sources, he or she may provide a list Works Consulted in place of a Works Cited.

Figures & Multimedia:

One of the many benefits of online journal publication is that written work can easily be supported and enriched by multimedia materials like images, audio files, and video. At the Edge welcomes scholarship that incorporates these kinds of resources. Please note that authors are responsible for securing any copyright permissions and paying any related fees for the supplementary material they wish to include. We strongly encourage our contributors to avoid such additional costs by using open access materials whenever possible.

Authors may use as many illustrations, photographs, diagrams, videos, audio files, etc. as they wish. These are all referred to as figures and should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals (Figure 4, etc.). All figures should be computer generated and should be accompanied by a descriptive caption. Please keep captions concise though informative, and provide a numbered list of all captions in a separate file. Captions should not be a part of the figure and should include any acknowledgements necessary.

We will accept the following multimedia formats:

Image: jpeg, png

Audio: mp3

Video: avi

http links should be clickable

Short Biography:

Authors should submit a short biography that covers topics such as educational history, recent professional/teaching history, research interests, and some information about recent or forthcoming publications. The biography should be submitted as a separate document and should be approximately 50-75 words in length.

Keywords:

Authors should submit a list of keywords to enable searching and indexing.
