Editorial Policies

Focus and Scope

The journal accepts submissions which are either research papers or book reviews. Submissions of opinions, commentary, journalistic pieces and other formats will be declined by the editors without peer-review. 

Submissions must be submitted as Word document (*.doc or *.docx) and uploaded through the journal system. 

Submissions to Mapping Politics must use the style-guide of the Canadian Journal of Political Science. Submissions which do not follow this citation and reference format will be returned to the author for correction. 

Submissions are not to exceed 8,000 words in length. 

All submissions must be anonymized to help facilitate the peer review process. Guidelines for ensuring a blind peer review are available online to help authors remove identifying information from their document. Submissions which have not been anonymized will be returned to the author for correction.

Peer Review Process

The co-editors review all submissions to the journal to ensure that they meet editorial standards and submission requirements. Articles submitted to Mapping Politics undergo double-blind peer-review by the review panel. 


Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.



This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...


Editorial Board

In 2017, the Editorial Board was created to provide governance to the journal. The Board is tasked with setting journal policy, selecting the Editors and assisting the Editors with various aspects of the journal's activities. The Board approves the journal's annual budget, submission criteria and changes to the journal's scope and activities. Changes to the journal's governance must also be approved by the Editorial Board.
