Author Guidelines

Submission:

Authors are required to submit their work online and to check the status of their submission.

Submissions will go to the editor(s) first, then, if suitable, will be sent out for double-blind peer-review. Submission of a contribution will be held to imply that it contains original unpublished work, and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere.

If you have any queries, please email the editorial office: janusunbound@gmail.com

Biography:

When you submit your manuscript (academic or creative), please submit with it a title page containing your contact details (name, email address, current affiliation etc.) and a one-line biography.

Format:

Articles should be submitted as Word files.

Style:

Authors are responsible for the consistency and accuracy of transliteration.

      Diacritical marks can be used.

Be consistent with the way loan words are spelled.

      Employ footnotes rather than endnotes.

Notes should be kept to a minimum both in number and length.

Referencing Style:

The referencing criteria JU upholds are based on the 16th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (footnotes).

Style Guidelines:

Initial submissions can be submitted without following the guidelines. If the paper is accepted for publication, it is returned to the author to make the necessary changes.

Tables, Figures, Photographs:

The author should obtain permission to reproduce any illustration that may be subject to copyright, and sources should be indicated appropriately in the accompanying captions. The use of figures (diagrams, charts, and graphs) and tables should be kept to a minimum, with only essential data presented. Each should be numbered consecutively, titled, and mentioned in the main text. Tables must contain editable text. Figures and tables should be supplied as separate editable files. Photographs can also be submitted if they are of good quality.

The editor(s) reserve(s) the right to copyedit the pieces of both the academic and creative sections accepted for publication. A copy-edited version will be sent by email to the author(s) if essential corrections need to be made or if the copy-editor has any queries. Authors are expected to correct and return the copy-edited version within 48 hours.

Copy-edited version (final version):

The editor(s) reserve(s) the right to copyedit the pieces of both the academic and creative sections accepted for publication. A copy-edited version will be sent by email to the author(s) if essential corrections need to be made or if the copy-editor has any queries. Authors are expected to correct and return the copy-edited version within 48 hours.

Ethics and Responsibilities of the Author (Please, refer to https://publicationethics.org/)

JU adheres to ethical standards. In particular:

We expect all authors to state in their paper if they have a conflict of interest.

All named authors on the papers should confirm that they have jointly participated in the research and writing of the article and that no author has been omitted from the list of authors.

The author’s work should be original, has not been previously published, and does not plagiarise or copy someone else’s work without attribution.

Papers should not defame, libel, or bring another person into disrepute, nor should it contain anything illegal (e.g. copyright infringing).

Criticism should be intellectual, and opposition should be to ideas not to people.

JU’s Citation Style:

JU uses American spelling (-ize, or). Commas and periods are placed inside closing quote marks. The footnote or note superscript number or letter should be placed outside the quote marks and outside commas or periods.

           a.      Quote marks: Double quote marks are used throughout. Single quote marks are used for quotations within quotations.

            b.      Dates: May 10th, 2009; 1980s; twenty-first century or 21st-c.

References:

JU does not have a reference list; it has footnotes. Authors should be consistent and follow the citation style of the 16th edition of the Chicago manual of style. For further details, refer for instance to https://www.lib.uwo.ca/files/styleguides/ChicagoNotesBibliography.pdf
