Graham F. Welch, Roehampton Institute London

GRAHAM WELCH is former Dean of the Faculty of Education (1991-1997) at Roehampton Institute London, one of the UK's major providers of teacher education, and is currently the Institute's first Director of Educational Research. He is also founder and Director of the Institute's Centre for Advanced Studies in Music Education which has attracted over £300,000 in external research funding since its inception in 1990. Professor Welch has been the ISME Research Commissioner for UK and Africa from 1996 and will be joint-Chair from 2000 to 2002. He is a recognized international specialist on many aspects of teacher and music education (especially in relation to the psychology of voice and singing development) and has authored four books and over 80 chapters and refereed articles. He is also currently acting as an adviser on aspects of educational development and research to the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and Argentina.

Julia Elsley, Roehampton Institute London

JULIA ELSLEY is a former inner-city primary school headteacher and Local Education Authority early years inspector who has also specialized throughout her career in music education. She is currently a freelance education consultant and OfSTED registered inspector working across England and overseas. Her research degree studies are focusing on the challenges and educational potential of baseline profiling in music education for pupils entering compulsory education at the age of five.
