Author Biography

Andrea Lane Gardner, Memorial University of Newfoundland, NL

ANDREA LANE GARDNER completed her Master of Music degree in May 2004 at the University of Western Ontario specializing in Collaborative Piano. While there she studied with John Hess and James Anagnoson. She acted as repetiteur and opera coach for the UWOpera production of Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring and also accompanied top choirs at Western, including the UWO Singers and Les Choristes Women’s Choir. She can be heard on several tracks of their commemorative CD Echo. In 2003 she was one of four pianists chosen from across Canada to participate in the six week Opera NUOVA program in Edmonton. While there, she acted as repetiteur for the full production of Le Nozze di Figaro and studied with Michael McMahon and New York Metropolitan Opera diction coach Nico Castel. She has just completed a year of teaching undergraduate keyboard harmony as well as acting as a vocal coach and accompanist in several voice studios at Western, including the studios of Kevin Macmillan and Jackalyn Short. Andrea completed her Bachelor of Music (Honours) in piano performance at Memorial University in 2002, having studied with Kristina Szutor. She has just relocated to St. John’s and is looking forward to becoming involved again in the vibrant music community of the city.
